In Daddio, first time Director Christy Hall captures a brutally honest conversation between a pair of New Yorkers who have never met, in the time it takes for a Yellow Cab to drive between a curbside pickup at JFK to a drop-off in Midtown Manhattan.
The exchanges happen between the woman, Dakota Johnson, and Sean Penn, the cabbie, Clark, who wishes he were called 'Vinnie'. The conversational topics flow like water, running over marriage, work, families, loss, panties, children, fantasies and bigamy.
Their conversations mirror those you'd have with either your hairdresser or someone on a plane, who you either know very well or know you'll never see again. Brutally honest and direct, like most New Yorkers, they give each other a view into the emotional baggage we all carry. They verbally compete, they spar, pulling no punches. Both characters leave it all on the table - in ninety minutes.
Sexy, frank, stellar performances from both Johnson and Penn, with a haunting score. Sometimes it's easier to tell a stranger your secrets. Because it's safe. Because it's stringless. The security of anonymity.
